The Friends of the Weston Public Library is voluntary organization that provides programming, activities, and services for the benefit of our community.

By providing a forum for artists, authors, musicians, filmmakers, and other interesting speakers, we strive to make our small town library a welcoming place where the community can gather, attend a lecture, view a film, discuss books, and meet people in town who share similar interests.

The Friends have instituted and sponsor the following programs that are open to all.

New Yorker Roundtable – a group that reads and discusses current articles In the New Yorker magazine, facilitated by Diana Loevy.

Two Adult Book Discussion Groups – monthly meetings are led by professional moderators.

The Wednesday evening group is led by Dr. Lisa Dresdner,
Associate Dean, Naugatuck Valley Community College.

The Thursday morning group is led by Diana Loevy, author of The Book Club Companion. (The Library provides copies of the selected books for each group.)

Lunch and Learn – a lunchtime program, in which participants bring a brown bag lunch and listen to a lecture.
Past topics have included talks by local authors, and presentations on Using Your Smart Phone, Using Digital Media, Tips on Gardening, and Taking Better Photographs.

Topical Lecture Series – on current events led by Karl Myer and Shareen Blair Brysac

Films – viewings of popular movies and documentaries, sometimes with writers and/or directors in attendance to answer questions about the screening.

Play with Your Food
– a well-known theater program that includes lunch and short plays, with a post-performance talk back.

Pajama Pictures – a children’s film series offered during the summer.

Animal Embassy – exciting nature programs for both children and adults.

Museum Passes - check them out like a book and visit for free or for a discounted admission.
In addition, the Friends have purchased the following items for patrons to use:
New NEC production system
E-readers: 2 color and 2 black and white Nooks

Our programs are open to the public and the majority of them are free; the Friends underwrite all costs whenever possible. We receive no funding from the town of Weston and rely on the generosity of our residents for financial support. Please join us and become a Friend of the Weston Public Library with a tax-deductible* contribution.
